Game Trails

When we were out hiking this weekend, Jay made note of all the game trails crisscrossing the brush. Elk, antelope, goats…there’s reason they chose the route that they do.  Their heavy, hoofed feet do a good job of making a trail.  Animals are driven by instinct – safety, food and procreation.  Nature does a good job of helping them help themselves – like using a game trail that leads them to water.

If we as humans are going to move beyond basic needs into a fulfilling life, we must get off the game trails established by our culture and the marketing machinery. Do the words, “Black Friday”, “Small Business Saturday” and “Cyber Monday” make you want to go shopping?

Isn’t it time to blaze some new trails?
