When you screw up
I have been a work in progress at identifying the negative voices and narratives that go through my head. But when you screw up – boy, oh boy, it can get especially dark and noisy.
So here’s what I’m doing to work through some screw ups.
Recognize it. Admit it. They’re called blind spots because you don’t see them.
Learn from it and grow.
Enlist support. I am part of a coaching forum so I turned to them. Not only did I find empathy, I found some good suggestions.
Honor the struggle. This is something one of my mentors, Brendon Burchard, says all the time. It’s much nicer hearing that as part of a tidy teaching. The reality of this is not as much fun but there is deep wisdom in this.
Accept that as long as you’re moving forward, you WILL make mistakes, take missteps and in general, do a few stupid things now and again.
Forgive and move on. Guilt serves no purpose what so ever.
This is your one life. Don’t allow screw ups to limit it.
