How to Simplify Your Life - 3 Major Areas to Consider
In my latest book, Badass Organizing: a short guide to uncluttering your home, head and heart, I address the process of unclutter in those three main areas. But really, what it’s about is simplification. If you are looking how to simplify your life, here’s how I break it down.
1. Your home. Most of us are drowning in possessions. The cost of purchasing these possession is just the beginning. We continue to pay for excess possessions through the visual distraction, the amount of time maintaining the items. and the stress of always feeling like you need to tidy and organize.
It is my opinion that his area of life simplification is the easiest one to implement. It can also be instantly gratifying. Start with your linen closet or a kitchen drawer.
2. Your head. Does a glimpse at your to-do list or calendar cause your heart to skip a bit? We are too busy and too distracted much of the time. Start with focusing on the ONE MOST IMPORTANT THING and fixate on that until it’s finished. If you’re like me at all, “Shiny Object Syndrome” keeps running from task to task and at the end of the day, I am exhausted and feel like I got nothing done.
3. Your heart. Is there a relationship in your life that has gone toxic? A negative Nancy that wants to dump on you every time your paths cross.? I can’t think of a quicker way to simplify life and bring a happier outlook than to establish boundaries with people who drain life from you. It takes great courage but life is too short! If you are uncertain as to how to take action, I always recommend journaling on the topic. It is amazing the clarity that is there for the taking when you allow yourself to slow down and well, simplify your life!
