The treasure buried underneath heart clutter
I love the Hindu story of Brahman, the master of the gods. It is said that he saw humans abusing the divinity inherent with each and everyone. Troubled, he asked the other gods, “What shall we do so they no longer abuse their divinity?”
“Let’s hide it!” one of the gods replied. Then they debated over where the most clever hiding spot would be. The highest mountains, said one. This was rejected. The deepest sea, said another. Nope, no dice, they concluded. This was indeed a conundrum!
Then they happened upon an idea. This is the ONE place the humans will never take the time to look. Surely it will be kept safe there - free from abuse. Where is this hidden place? The gods concurred, “We will hide it in the deepest recesses of their hearts, for surely humans will never look there.” My friends, there is divinity in you. Regardless of your religious persuasion, or not, you hold treasure deep within you.
But instead of looking within we distract ourselves with heart clutter - busyness, denial and addictive behaviors. We are terrified of silence and solitude.
Our egos tell us that if we can just do this or that, we’ll be good to go - happy and at peace. But that is an endless merry-go-round. After all we are human beings not human doings. At your core, you are magnificent and glorious. Be still. Take a deep breath. And remember who you really are.
