Best gifts for Christmas
Jay and I went to Wal-Mart on Black Friday. It felt surreal. I have needed a new phone for some time now and have been waiting to see what their deals were. So we pinched our noses and dived in. Folks were lined up in the aisle ways and the checkout stands had the clerks standing there - no one in line. There were MOUNTAINS of items piled in the main aisleways.
With our kids grown and being the old folks that we are, I saw nothing that even remotely interested me. We have all that we need for running our household and because we are full time RV’ers we don’t have the room for anything anyway! The other things going through my mind: most of this stuff is going to end up in a landfill in a few years (if not sooner).
After determining the phone deals were a non event for me, we exited via the empty checkout lines. I asked the clerk what was up and she said the Black Friday deals were scheduled to kick it at 6:00pm sharp. Alrighty. The computers were running the show. (Is it just me or is that a little 2001: Space Odyssey-ish?)
Okay. What was I saying? Ah yes, the best gifts for Christmas? How about these two ideas: plan an experience with a loved one, like tickets to an event, and/or get something consumable - a gift certificate to a locally owned restaurant. And while I’m sitting here brainstorming - how about a gift certificate for a service? (Cough, cough - organizing anyone?) Other services - how about an oil change certificate or a massage?
Anyhoo. Whatever you choose, my biggest wish for you is a peaceful holiday with loved ones.
